Introduction

Our client is looking for a commercially minded and experienced Accountant to take responsibility for the full accounting function of the business.

This is a hands-on role suited to an individual who is analytical, detail-oriented and confident managing the full accounting cycle, from general ledger and reconciliations through to management reporting, taxation, debtors, creditors and banking.

The successful candidate will work closely with operational management and external stakeholders, providing accurate financial information and supporting sound business decision-making.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the full general ledger and ensure the integrity of financial records.
  • Process and review cashbooks, bank reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments and month-end entries.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and management accounts.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers, including depreciation and disposals.
  • Manage work-in-progress, provisions, accruals and other accounting adjustments.
  • Analyse financial performance and investigate significant variances.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
  • Oversee the debtors function, including ageing, collections and doubtful debt provisions.
  • Oversee creditors and ensure supplier accounts are accurately reconciled.
  • Manage local and foreign creditor accounts and ensure payments are processed accurately and on time.
  • Prepare payment schedules and load payments onto electronic banking platforms.
  • Assist with cash flow planning and liquidity management.
  • Prepare VAT reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with SARS compliance, including VAT, PAYE and other statutory submissions.
  • Support internal and external audit processes.
  • Liaise with auditors, banks, SARS, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide financial support and guidance to operational management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting.
  • Assist with system enhancements and process standardisation.
  • Provide financial analysis and support on ad hoc projects.

Experiences & Qualifications

  • BCom Degree or equivalent in Accounting / Accounting Science.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a full-function accounting role.
  • Proven experience preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Strong experience across debtors, creditors, bank reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience dealing with SARS and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Sound understanding of financial accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of IFRS for SMEs and applicable accounting standards.
  • Understanding of VAT, PAYE and South African taxation requirements.
  • Experience in a multi-branch or commercial environment will be advantageous.
